Icom Two Way Radio Contributes to Smooth Running of Sussex Cricket Club
Sussex County Cricket Club, one of the most successful county cricket clubs in recent years, are using Icom IC-F4002 two way radios throughout the organisation to help with the running of the club as well as ensuring that match day operations go as smoothly as possible. The radio scheme was designed, implemented and managed by Icom Business Radio dealer, ADUR Communications.
Sussex County Cricket Club
was the first First-Class County formed in 1839 and in recent time has found prolonged success since winning its first County Championship in 2003. Dubbed the ‘The Golden Decade’, the club saw an era of great results, winning countless county titles and one day trophies.
The county ground and centre of business for the club is in Hove, East Sussex and other matches are played at the Club's out-grounds in West Sussex at Arundel and Horsham. Managing a county club is no small concern and on match day there will be at least 80 people working at the club. With stewards this could rise to over 200. With a capacity of 5,500 the club required a two way radio system that would allow staff to communicate clearly with each other and to ensure that the whole operation runs efficiently.
The club use over seventy Icom IC-F4002 16 Channel UHF two way radios
. Used by organisations across many business sectors the radio offers simple operation, outstanding audio, high performance and strong commercial build. In addition, the control room also features an IC-F6022 base station.
Don Semmons, Match Day Safety Officer for Sussex County Cricket Club said, ‘the county ground can be a busy venue. On a day to day basis two-way radios are used by security, academy and catering staff to ensure the smooth running of all the facilities offered and the safety of staff and visitors.’
‘On match days stewards, gate staff, security staff, finance staff, ticket office staff, safety officers and medical staff use the digital two way radios. With the higher number of spectators and the need to provide a safe environment, it is essential that the stewards can communicate effectively. Audio clarity and reliable coverage are also key as well and the radios provide us with this.’
Don said, ‘Primarily, any system we use at the club has to contribute towards a high level of service for our customers. With that in mind, the radio system over the last 5 years, has worked satisfactorily with very few issues.'
