IC-V82/U82

IC-V82/U82

VHF/UHF Amateur Handheld Transceiver (Discontinued)

The IC-V82/U82 high-power VHF/UHF handheld transceiver offers exciting digital options to Radio Amateurs. The introduction of the digital UT-118 unit provides digital voice and data communication compatability with other IC-V82 and IC-2200H mobile units. This allows you to enjoy digitally modulated, clear voice, data messaging and position exchange.

7W of output power
The IC-V82 employs a new highly efficient, low exothermic MOS-FET. With the supplied battery pack, 7W of high power operation is possible. For longer operating times, 4W or 0.5W* of reduced output power settings can be selected.

Easy to use operation
The IC-V82 is designed for newcomers to Ham radio and those users who prefer simple operation. Function menu indications are clearly labelled on the keypad.

Reversible rotary knob and up/down buttons
Volume and channel selection can be controlled by the rotary selector on the top panel or by pressing the up/down buttons on the front panel. The volume level and channel number is displayed during adjustment.

Alphanumeric display
The IC-V82 has a large, easy-to-see display. Channel name, operating frequency, memory number are shown clearly. An S-meter icon shows signal strength of the receiving frequency and output power level while transmitting.

A total of 207 memory channels
The IC-V82 has a total of 207 memory channels, including 200 regular channels, 6 scan edges and 1 call channel. The offset direction, offset frequency and tone frequency for repeater access are also programmable per channel. The channel name is programmable with 5 characters for easy recognition.

Dynamic Memory Scan (DMS) system
The Dynamic Memory Scan (DMS) system divides regular memory channels into 10 groups, A to J, and provides easy channel selection. DMS allows you to scan all the selected banks you want to scan by simply adding/deleting bank links with Icom’s exclusive Bank Link system.

CTCSS and DTCS tone squelch
The CTCSS and DTCS tones are built-in for quiet standby and repeater access. The pocket beep and tone scan are also possible. The tone scan allows the operator to detect the sub audible tone which can be used for repeater access.

DTMF and pager operation
The IC-V82 has 16 DTMF memory channels for remote controlling a repeater, telephone interconnect etc. Each DTMF memory channel stores up to a 24-digit code. The optional DTMF decoder unit, UT-108 provides pager and code squelch functions.

A wide range of accessories are available
Battery packs, chargers, antenna, speaker-microphone and headsets are compatible with much of Icom’s commercial range of handhelds.

Features of the UT-118

Optional Digital Unit, UT-118
The IC-V82 is Icom’s first digital handheld. The optional UT-118 allows you to add the following digital features.

Digital voice
Provides digitally modulated clear audio. Voice and data can be sent simultaneously.

Callsign function and callsign squelch
Stores My (own), Your (other stations) and repeater* callsigns in the memory. Each callsign memory stores 6 callsigns with 8-character comment. Own callsign and up to a 20-character message can be sent at the beginning of each call. The received callsign and message are decoded on the scrolling display. The callsign squelch opens the squelch only when receiving a voice signal with your own callsign and provides quiet stand-by and selective call features.

Digital code squelch (CSQL)
The digital code squelch opens the squelch only when receiving a voice signal with a preset digital code, thus providing quiet stand-by. A total of 100 digital codes (00- 99) are programmable.

Position information exchange
When connecting an external GPS receiver (NMEA 0183 format) to the IC-V82 data jack, own and other station’s position information can be sent. Supported data formats are GLL, GGA, RMC, GSA and VTG sentences. The IC-V82 sends position data either by holding the PTT switch, or at a preset interval (0.5–30 minutes), depending on the setting.

Other Digital Features

  • Stand-by beep ...Automatically sends a beep sound at the end of each transmission
  • Slow data communication by connecting a PC to the transceiver
  • EMR (Enhanced Monitor Request) call...This function forces open the receiver’s squelch to allow communication with other stations.
  • Break-in communication
  • Pocket beep and auto reply

IC-V82/U82 Additional Features

  • Durable construction
  • LCD backlighting
  • Power save function
  • BNC type antenna connector
  • Various scanning functions including program, memory, skip, priority and tone scan
  • TOT (time out timer) setting
  • FM narrow mode capability
