What do the terms "Duplex" and "Simplex" mean?

04 November 2009

There are three types of radio communication:

Simplex communication:

One-way communication between the sender or transmitter and the receiver.

Duplex communication:

Allows communication in both directions simultaniously. It requires two transmitters and two receivers; one transmitter and one receiver at either end of the communication link.

Half duplex communication:

Only one end transmits at a time, the other end receives.
