Three Icom VHF Marine handhelds have recently been reviewed in the December issue of Sailing Today; the Icom IC-M33, IC-M35 and IC-M71 featured as part of a practical group test of handheld VHF radios.

The test was conducted from a RIB test boat to the Solent Coastguard at ranges from 4 to 12 miles. 12 checks were conducted on each of the radios measuring the absolute maximum range of each radio and the quality of the signal received by the coastguard station's antennae.

Of the 12 VHF handhelds reviewed, the Icom IC-M71 was awarded the “Premium Product” award.
