Contest University UK 2009 Post Event Report – Mark Haynes (M0DXR)

The Icom sponsored 2009 Contest University UK Programme, held on the 10th of October 2009 at this years RSGB Convention enjoyed successful attendance with increased interest on last year.

CTU UK occupied two of the presentation streams delivering a wide range of contesting related topics. Everything from beginner tips through to advanced tactics for the experienced contester was covered in the programme. The event hosted 14 of the UK's top contest operators, as well as Tim Duffy (K3LR) via video link from the USA. Sessions were divided between Multi-Sessions in the morning and Short-Groups in the afternoon. The morning sessions comprised of presentations whilst the afternoon was taken up with Short-Groups and informal discussions.

Icom UK produced packs containing copies of all presentations and supporting material which were distributed to all attendees together with a CD-ROM containing this material and more. The sessions were very popular this year, with slightly larger rooms to accommodate the 245 participants who took part in CTU. 80 attendees qualified, receiving a certificate awarded for attending at least 4 of any of the sessions.

Mark Haynes (M0DXR) Course Director commented, "I would like to thank the CTU UK Professors: G0MTN, K3LR, G0KYA, G3UFY, G4BUO, G3BJ, G4IRN, G3LDI, G4TSH, G6PZ, G3XTT, MM0BQI, GM3WOJ, G3SXW, G4PIQ, and last but by no means least my wife Gemma 2E0WPX for doing a lot of the running around on the day andpreparing the certificates (not bad considering she was 20 weeks pregnant with our first child!)"

"Many thanks also go to the CTU UK official Sponsor, Icom UK. Marketing Manager Ian Lockyer and his team have provided wonderful support to a programme that is receiving growing interest on a global scale. CTU in the USA is continuing after 3 successful years as well as CTU Italy run by Stefano IK2QEI, who was also an attendee at CTU UK this year. Tim K3LR has done so much to making this a valuable facility and continues to support the hobby in everything he does, and I thank him again for his efforts to support this event internationally."

Icom UK would like to congratulate Mark on another spectacular Contest University programme and thank him for his continued hard work within the Amateur Radio community.
