GB7MM (that's Monitoring Monthly) Connects To D-STAR

The Wimborne D-Star repeater group are pleased to announce that GB7MM the 2m DV reflector sponsored by Icom UK and Monitoring Monthly is now connected to the world-wide D-Star network.

The group had a running Gateway server that had been registered to the Trust servers for some time, but there was some work to be done to establish a reliable link to the GB7MM site. This vital link has been established with the use of a Wireless LAN set-up that has a rather difficult and obstructed 1km path. GB7MM's keeper, Kevin G3UNR thanks the team members, Paul M0EYT, Jules G0NZO, John G0API and Chris G8MXW for their superb effort in ensuring the project was a success. Additionally, the team are very grateful to Icom UK for the loan of the repeater hardware.

Now that the GB7MM Gateway is operational, local users can easily contact any of the other 300+ connected repeaters in the D-Star network. D-Star is certainly growing at a rapid rate and the amount of the UK with coverage is making it a very useful mode indeed. There is once more, a feeling of experimentation and discovery in the use of amateur radio. With a daily growth in users D-Star certainly seems to be the fastest growing area in the amateur radio hobby.

GB7MM has been on air since 9 July 2008 and currently has R.F. capability on 2m at 145.700MHz, more information can be found at www.monitoringmonthly.co.uk/gb7mm.html.

Now that the Gateway is functional, GB7MM can be found connected to Reflector 005 A at most times.
