Inventure the Next Challenge

Icom (UK) Ltd has donated marine radio communication equipment to a project named Inventure - The Next Challenge. The long-term four-phased project, led by Trevor Jones, aims to establish yachting as a sport for the severely disabled. The project will be using an IC-M1Euro VHF handportable radio and an IC-M59 Fixed VHF radio.

Trevor Jones aims to be the first quadriplegic to sail around the world. His yacht Inventure, a wing powered trimaran has been specially adapted for the challenge.

The project aims are as follows:Phase 1 To build the world's first ever ocean going yacht that can be sailed by tetraplegics.Phase 2 A circumnavigation of the UK between July-September 2001.Phase 3 To sail around the world with a crew of two wheelchair users and two personal assistantsPhase 4 To establish Inventure as a unique training and recreation facility for severely disabled people, spending half the year in Europe and half in the USA

The project is currently in Phase 2 and is travelling around the UK.
